What is Alignment Anyway?

Power Moves

Let’s be real. Alignment is a buzzword that is taking the internet by storm, and is officially making it’s way into the business realm. I’m here for it, as it’s needed in this hustle culture world of entrepreneurship. However, everything I hear about it left me feeling more and more confused.

Recently, I was listening to a podcast literally titled “What is Alignment?” and by the end I was completely lost. The entire conversation between the two hosts was filled with spiritual buzzwords and tangents galore.

So, let’s clear the noise and define what alignment is and isn’t, and what you really need to know about it. In this post, we are going to ground this concept into real life, real business and real energy.

And, while we’re being real here, there’s something else I want you to know that I don’t hear talked about often enough. Alignment isn’t a place you arrive and stay. Even the most soul-led, energetically attuned entrepreneurs slip out of alignment from time to time.

It’s not about staying in alignment forever. It’s about understanding when you’re out of alignment, so you can make the moves needed to come back into alignment with grace. So, first let’s clarify:

What Alignment Isn’t

Alignment doesn’t mean everything feels good all the time. It doesn’t mean that you’ll always have clarity, or feel motivated, certain or even confident.

Misalignment can look and feel like:

  • Overthinking your next action
  • Second-guessing decisions you’ve already made
  • Pushing through something you know feels off because it worked for someone else (or you were told it’s the best way to do it)
  • Performing for the algorithm, your clients, or even your past self.
  • Feeling like your wheels are spinning but you’re going nowhere (the hamster wheel effect).

If you’ve ever said “I just need to be more consistent” or “This should be working by now,” hear me loud and clear. YOU ARE NOT BROKEN. You’re simply out of alignment.

So, What is Alignment?

What is Alignment Anyway? What alignment looks like in life and business.

Simply put, alignment is when your energy, intuition, and strategy are moving in the same direction. It’s when you know what to do because your body, mind, and soul say yes. Not because someone else says it’s what you ‘should’ be doing. It’s when you’re business feels like an extension of you, not like something you have to live up to.

The best part? Alignment is available to you at every moment. Even right now. Not when you reach a milestone, such as having a certain number of followers, hitting a monetary goal, or acquiring a specific number of clients.

The Truth is: Alignment is a Journey, Not a Destination

Let’s ditch the illusion that “alignment has a finish line”. We are all cyclical, evolving human beings. Life ebbs and flows and shifts. We go through seasons, just like nature, and alignment does too.

The goal isn’t to get in alignment and stay there 24/7. So, if you feel that way, here’s your permission slip to burn that limiting belief to ashes.

The goal is to become aware of when you slip out of alignment and slowly return to alignment with grace. Because, once you know what alignment feels like in your body, in your business, and in your decision making, it becomes obvious when you slip out.

You don’t need a rigid plan. You simply need presence.

How to Realign (Without Overhauling Everything)

When you feel yourself disconnecting (or feeling drained), try this:

  • Pause. Take three deep breaths and tune into your body. Ask yourself: “Where am I forcing something that no longer fits?”
  • Reflect. What part of your business feels heavy, confusing, or out of integrity? Write it down. This is a judgment free zone…we are just bringing awareness forward.
  • Recommit. What’s the next clear, grounded step that honors your truth instead of pressure? Take it.

You don’t need radical change to begin shifting into alignment. Taking one step at a time is forward movement… even if it feels like you’re going backward from time to time.

This is Just the Beginning of Alignment

This post serves as the foundation for aligning yourself and your business. In my next post, “From Hustle to Flow,” I’ll guide you through how to transition from force to flow, from burnout to alignment, and from chaos to clarity.

Remember, alignment isn’t about doing more perfectly. It’s about leading from the inside out, again and again. And you don’t have to walk this path alone.

If you’re ready to take the path of alignment with support, I invite you to join the Rising Entrepreneur Membership (REM). Here you’ll receive monthly guidance, aligned structure, and community for creative entrepreneurs and leaders building a business in flow, not force.

Here’s what REM member, Rebecca F., shared with me recently:

“I have so much gratitude for our connection. Learning how there can be more flow and alignment with how we build/run our businesses has been a blessing. Things feel so simple now. I’m even excited about doing new things. Thank you for being you and for building this container for us!”

Know someone who needs this message? Send this post their way. Alignment gets stronger when we walk it together.

You’re not too much. You’re not behind. You’re not failing.

You are not broken. The way you were taught to do business is.

I’m honored to walk beside you on this crazy journey called entrepreneurship.
