“What do you do to prevent spiraling when things just aren’t going right?” one of the Rising Entrepreneur Members asked during a recent Q&A call.

This is a great question, and it makes me ask something deeper:

What makes you think things aren’t going right in the first place?

Is it simply because it’s not going the way you imagined? Maybe because it’s taking longer than expected, or the fact that it’s not unfolding on YOUR timeline?

We’re so quick to assume something is “wrong” when it doesn’t look the way we hoped. But more often than not, that discomfort is actually a sign that things are unfolding exactly as they’re meant to for your highest timeline.

The Problem with Expectations

It’s human nature to want to control. We often build expectations based on past experiences, what we’ve seen work for others, or even how we think things should happen. So, when life doesn’t follow that path, panic sets in.

This can manifest as feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, and even doubt. It can leave us thinking, “Am I really cut out for this? Did I mess up? Why isn’t this working?”

But here’s the truth:

The expectations we set are often rooted in limitation.

When we cling to a specific outcome or timeline, we are literally putting up barriers to other possibilities…possibilities we can’t even fathom, like better ones.

A Story from the REM Community

One of our members recently shared that she applied for a leadership position. Deep in her soul, she knew this was her path, and she was meant to step into leadership.

She applied for the job but didn’t get it. You can only imagine how this made her feel. So, was she wrong? Was the dream misaligned?

Absolutely not.

Two months later, someone else decided to step down from their leadership role. She was offered the position, and it turned out to be a better team and better fit for her than the original role would have ever been.

On the call, I asked her: “Could you have predicted this outcome when you didn’t get the first position?” She responded, “No, of course not.”

Sometimes the first door has to close to make space for the ones that are yours. And sometimes, it’s more than one door that needs to close.

Trusting What You Can’t Yet See

The scariest part about alignment is that it rarely makes sense in the moment, especially if you’ve lived in a mindset of, “I need to know how it’s going to unfold, when it’s going to happen, and why it hasn’t yet.”

But control doesn’t create clarity; connection does. Your intuition knows, and it always has. However, our intuition speaks in a soft voice while our mind shouts at us.

Your ego (which is just trying to keep you safe) will cling to the plan, the timing, and the outcome. Your intuition, on the other hand, will guide you to something far greater. You just have to connect and listen to it.

So What Do You Do When Things Feel Like They’re Not Going Right?

It’s as simple as pausing and taking a deep breath to return to your body. Most importantly, you deepen your connection to your intuition.

This isn’t about bypassing hard feelings. It’s about remembering that your soul sees a bigger picture than your mind can comprehend.

And it’s from that space, not panic, that true alignment flows in.
